What Are Virtual Production Background Assets?
By using XYN Spatial capture solution, there is no need to model or create CG from scratch. Multiple image data files can be automatically converted into high-quality 3DCG assets of real-world spaces in a short period of time, enabling their use as virtual production backgrounds.
XYN Spatial capture solution provides the following three software products:
XYN Spatial Scan Navi: A smartphone application for capturing high-quality image data of real-world spaces using a mirrorless camera
XYN Spatial Scan: A cloud application that converts real-world spaces into high-quality 3DCG assets
XYN Spatial Renderer Plugin: A renderer plugin that delivers high image quality and stable display performance
Features of Background Assets Generated by XYN Spatial Scan
Using Venus, the generation algorithm behind XYN Spatial Scan, it produces production-quality background CG assets suitable for virtual production filming.
Highly Accurate Reproduction from Distant to Close Range
The Venus generation algorithm faithfully reproduces both distant and close-range real-world environments without distortion, maintaining a true-to-life sense of scale. By reconstructing details such as distant buildings and nearby thin handrails—elements that were difficult to reproduce with conventional technology—in high resolution, it generates data of sufficient quality for display on large LED screens.

Comparison between a reference image (left) and XYN (right). The reproduction accuracy of details such as distant buildings and nearby handrails is significantly improved.
Faithfully Reproduces Textures That Blend Naturally with Live Action
It reproduces textures with high fidelity, including reflective and glossy materials such as metal, as well as transparent glass materials, so that they blend naturally with live-action footage. This can significantly reduce the amount of post-generation model correction work required.

The two images on the left show conventional results, while the image on the right shows the result generated by XYN. Reflections and gloss on transparent glass materials are faithfully reproduced, minimizing the need for manual corrections after generation.
Reduces High-Sensitivity Noise and Floater Noise
High-sensitivity noise generated during shooting, as well as floater noise caused by changes in exposure or moving objects appearing in the frame, is reduced during processing by a proprietary algorithm. This makes it possible to generate stable, high-quality data with less dependence on the shooting environment.
The image on the left is a reference image, and the image on the right is the result generated by XYN. White floater noise caused by exposure changes is reduced by the proprietary algorithm, maintaining clear image quality.
