Inter BEE 2025|XYN Proposes New Visual Expressions and Production Workflows for the Media Industry

ib01

Sony exhibited at Inter BEE 2025, Japan's one of the largest media event, held at Makuhari Messe for three days from November 19 (Wed.) to 21 (Fri.), 2025.

Under the theme of this year's Sony booth, "Creativity Connected: Toward a Future of Content Creation that Connects Us Together," Sony exhibited its spatial content production solutions, "XYN™," at this gathering of professionals in the fields of video, sound, and communications. We were able to have many visitors experience the possibilities of our spatial content production solutions, "XYN™ ".
Here is a report on the three main exhibits that presented new options for video production workflows, from virtual production to immersive experiences, along with scenes from the exhibition halls.

Introduction of exhibition booths
XYN Spatial capture solution(Prototype)|Open new possibilities beyond the various constraints of shooting locations

The first product to be introduced is the XYN Spatial capture solution (Prototype), which efficiently converts real-world objects and spaces into high-quality 3DCG assets.

Introduction of examples of high-quality 3DCG assets and simulation demos

At the booth, background assets generated for virtual production were displayed on a monitor as an alternative to an LED display.
The subjects of this exhibit included a cityscape from the roof of the Shibuya's Building, Himeji Castle, and the Metropolitan Outer Area Underground Discharge Channel , all of which are tourist destinations or locations with shooting restrictions. In the actual shooting, the actors are supposed to stand in front of the LEDs that project the generated backgrounds, but in the demonstration, the system was linked to a control system that imitated camera tracking, so that the audience could see how the backgrounds changed in real time in accordance with the camera work.

3DCG assets of desired locations with limited access to be filmed, greatly reducing cost and time

The value we propose with this solution is "streamlining the video production workflow.

  • Streamlining video production: By creating 3DCG assets for backgrounds in locations that are not easily accessible for on-location shooting, we can shoot in the studio at any time. This contributes to increased efficiency and cost reduction in video production.

  • Digital archiving of studio sets: Studio sets that are dismantled after filming and program sets that need to be reassembled many times on a regular basis can be easily digitized, thereby reducing storage costs for props, shortening set-up time, and increasing studio utilization rates.

In addition to virtual production applications, visitors also expressed interest in the use of the system for digital archiving of cultural assets and maintenance of infrastructure facilities.

75-inch Spatial Reality Display|Sensing even "presence" through 3D images, a true "brain viewing sensation

The "Large 75-inch Spatial Reality Display," a reference exhibit, attracted attention as a next-generation viewing experience.

Demonstration of viewing high-definition images realized with a large 8K naked-eye 3D display

By enlarging the product version (27-inch 4K) and employing an 8K panel, an immersive video experience with the naked eye was realized.
The demo content included the premiere of cinematographer Mr. Masahiro Aida's new film "Landry," shot in stereo using two Sony VENICE Extension System Mini, providing a powerful stereoscopic experience that only a 75-inch large screen can deliver, allowing visitors to experience the delicate colors and depth of the film and the rich expressiveness of the 3D content. The experience of "seeing with the brain" was a key element of the promotion.

"Brain-telephotography" experience will change promotion and production

With the growing demand for and interest in spatial content, such as the spread of XR headsets and the increase in immersive experience facilities, this device offers new value in terms of providing a high-quality 3D experience that sets it apart from conventional 3D content viewing and supporting the production environment that creates it.

  • High-definition expressiveness : Depth resolution has been improved for both the camera and the output monitor. The new system reproduces a texture that has been described by Director Aida as "a cut-out space that appears before your eyes, and you can even feel its presence.

  • Preview and promotional applications : The display's built-in eye recognition sensor precisely identifies the person standing in front of the screen, allowing the viewer to experience rich spatial content in turn. Since no special goggles are required, the content can be shared seamlessly among viewers.

Spatial Reality  Display ELF-SR2|Streamline Production Workflows with High-Quality Naked-Eye Stereoscopic Monitoring

The third is the 27-inch Spatial Reality Display (ELF-SR2), which can be used immediately in the field of stereo content production.

Real-time stereo monitoring on set

At the booth, we demonstrated side-by-side input of two live images from two VENICE Extension System Mini, one for the right eye and one for the left eye, to Spatial Reality Display for real-time stereoscopic viewing, and showed the high definition of the stereoscopic images, including low crosstalk and accurate depth reproduction. The audience was able to confirm the high definition of stereoscopic images, including low crosstalk and accurate depth reproduction.

Supporting 3D image production with headset-free, hassle-free, and accurate feedback

The ability to immediately check stereoscopic images without discomfort at the site of stereo (3D) shooting is expected to streamline the shooting workflow, lower the production hurdle, and improve the quality of the images. In addition to live monitoring, the system is also intended for use in depth grading editing in post-production and VFX compositing.

  • Smooth on-the-spot consensus building: The crew and director can easily and accurately check the stereoscopic effect with the naked eye, without the need for a VR headset.

  • Improved quality: By being able to correct misalignments and discrepancies on the spot, post-production rework can be reduced and more natural-looking images can be produced. This is a support tool to ensure that the focus and expression as intended by the creator is delivered to the viewer.

To support new breakthroughs for spatial content creators

At Inter BEE 2025, we were able to exchange opinions with many video professionals.
The " XYN " solution group is more than just a technology exhibit; it provides new customer value for the entire workflow, from streamlining location shooting and studio set operations for virtual productions, to improving the monitoring environment at 3D production sites, and ultimately contributing to a broader viewing experience. We will continue to support creators in their efforts to expand the range of expression through the power of technology and further challenge the video industry.
