At Build: Tokyo 2025 for Automotive, hosted by Epic Games Japan, we showcased two solutions in collaboration with Sony PCL. This report explains how 3DCG can be used in the automotive industry. We will walk you through our technology and explain how it can help to streamline business processes, from design and manufacturing to sales, while also creating new value.
The event demonstrates how we are taking virtual production technology, which has mostly been used in the film industry, and applying it to the automotive industry.
Exhibition booth
Simulation using "XYN Spatial capture solution (Prototype)" to expand the possibilities of the design phase
XYN Spatial capture solution (Prototype) is a solution that efficiently converts real-world spaces and objects into photorealistic 3DCG assets.
At the booth, we exhibited a simulation in which 3DCG data*1 of a car body was placed on a photorealistic background asset generated by the XYN spatial capture solution (Prototype). We proposed an efficient and creative way to proceed with design studies during the automotive design phase.
Benefits of Use
See the best design for each market, no matter the time or place
This simulation is characterized by its ability to quickly generate a wide variety of variations.
- Realistic Reflections
Using HDRI (High dynamic range imaging), we accurately simulated light reflections on the vehicle body and the reflection of the surrounding scenery. By overlaying background assets generated with the XYN Spatial capture solution (Prototype), you can verify the textures of materials and the beauty of curved surfaces in a form close to reality. - Diverse Environments
Create any location in CG, such as a city or a natural environment, and depict different times of day or weather conditions. This allows design evaluations to be tailored to the ambient light and scenery of target markets, without being limited by physical constraints.
This technology reduces the cost and lead time of producing mockups. This enables more design patterns to be tested, enhancing product competitiveness.

A three-sided display demo that elevates the experiential value of design and sales.
Another exhibit simulates vehicle body design using a three-panel display system intended for design review and sales phase applications. The left panel features a large 75-inch Spatial Reality Display (under development), which enables high-definition stereoscopic imaging without the need for special glasses. The center and right panels utilize standard 75-inch displays. Participants used a controller to change the color, angle, and scene of the vehicle displayed on the Spatial Reality Display. The captured images are then projected onto the center and right displays.
In this demonstration, visitors can freely change the color, angle, and scene of the car body projected on the large 75-inch Spatial Reality Display (Under development) by operating the controller located in front of the display. Furthermore, by pressing the "Shoot" button, images of each angle taken in 3D space are projected on the center and right screen displays.
Benefit of Use
Streamline design decision-making or create new sales experiences
This display can be utilized in two phases: design and sales.
- Design Phase Applications
Designers and engineers can review three-dimensional designs without special goggles. Incorporating specifications that allow on-the-spot color and part changes facilitates smoother, higher-quality decision-making and enables multiple people to share concrete visualizations. - Application in the Sales Phase
In dealership showrooms, it serves as a space-saving configurator that impresses customers. Using preset data, even body colors and optional equipment not in stock can be presented as realistic 3D images. This fulfills customers' requests to "see the actual car" and provides a new purchasing experience.
Talk Session
Takashi Ito from Sony PCL and Yoshiyuki Ota from Sony Corporation gave a talk in a session format about the possible design simulations using the XYN Spatial capture solution (Prototype).
We explained the characteristics and evolution of cutting-edge 3DCG generation technologies such as photogrammetry, NeRF, and 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), along with our in-development XYN Spatial capture solution, using Sony PCL's virtual production use cases as examples.

Contributing to the Automotive Value Chain with 3DCG Technology
Through this exhibition, we demonstrated that 3DCG technology is a "business solution" capable of creating new value across the entire automotive value chain, from planning and design to sales, rather than merely an "expression tool."
Going forward, we will continue to leverage digital technology to support the automotive industry's digital transformation.
